On 19 May 2021, Toby Landau QC testified before the UK House of Lords International Agreements Select Committee. The Committee is currently engaged in reviewing the UK Government’s policy on new trade agreements, and in particular its possible accession to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP). The meeting was chaired by Lord Lansley. Toby Landau provided oral evidence on investment protection and investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS), including whether ISDS incentivises investment; the benefits of ISDS to investors; how ISDS provisions have been included in international trade and investment agreements; and the suitability of dispute resolution alternatives.
